The Jean-Noël Herlin Archive Project

Specific Object / David Platzker is pleased to be working with Jean-Noël Herlin to offer files from his Archive Project, a personal, egalitarian and inclusive, or in Erwin Panofsky's term, monist account of creativity in the visual and performing arts internationally from the middle of the 20th Century to the present.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design Presents: "Vintage Dan Graham: Projects for Publication 1966 – 2009"

The Charles H. Scott Gallery, Vancouver, Canada, is pleased to present the work of legendary New York conceptual artist Dan Graham. Vintage Dan Graham: Projects for Publication 1966-2009 presents both artwork specifically created by Graham for periodicals and other publications and Graham's own writings on sex, drugs, rock-n-roll, art, and architecture first seen in print between 1966 and 2009. An exhibition curated by Specific Object / David Platzker. November 18 to December 20, 2009.

Marcel Broodthaers : A Voyage on the North Sea

Specific Object / David Platzker was pleased to present Marcel Broodthaers : A Voyage on the North Sea. The exhibition was presented at Specific Object from January 28 through March 20, 2009. In this project Specific Object presented a film screening and exhibition of Belgian Conceptual artist, Marcel Broodthaers’ (1926 - 1976) unusual hybrid of book and film, A Voyage on the North Sea (1973 - 1974).

Art by Telephone (Chicago: Museum of Contemporary Art, 1969)

In this exhibition Specific Object presents the continuous playing of the original, 44 minute, 33-1/3 RPM vinyl LP record which was produced as the exhibition catalogue for the show Art by Telephone, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, November 1 - December 14, 1969.

[St.] Raymond Pettibon[e] : 1978 - 1986

Exhibition held at Specific Object from June 16 though October 3, 2008. Between the years 1978 and 1986 Raymond Pettibon [a.k.a. Raymond Pettibone; St. Pettibone; Chuck Higby; Ray Dylan; Raymond Ginn] produced an aggressive trove of graphic works for the seminal Southern California punk band Black Flag as well as for Red Cross, The Minutemen, Nig Heist, and others. Published predominately by SST Records -- which was founded by Pettibon's brother and Black Flag guitarist, Greg Ginn -- the exhibition features over two hundred gig flyers, artists' books, album covers, posters, T-shirts, stickers, skateboard decks, and the first five editioned prints by Pettibon. Specific Object Publication of the Year Award 2010 Call for Submissions

Specific Object / David Platzker is pleased to announce a call for entries for the Specific Object Publication of the Year Award. Since 2004, Specific Object has annually selected a Specific Object Publication of the Year. Winners of the Award receive a cash prize of $500 and the title of Specific Object Publication of the Year.

Specific Object presents an exhibition of READ Edition, a fundraising print portfolio published by the Emily Carr Institute Press Press [ECI Press] of Vancouver, Canada. Curated by Christoph Keller and Kathy Slade, the portfolio features works by Fiona Banner, Dan Graham, Brian Jungen, Myfanwy MacLeod, Jonathan Monk, Shannon Oksanen, Peter Piller, Frances Stark, Michael Stevenson, and Ron Terada, from March 28 through April 20, 2007.
